'Shut up or ship out': Mutahi Ngunyi takes on diplomats over poll

Diplomats should "shut up" on matters Kenya, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has said and joined the list of citizens displeased with a statement.

US ambassador Robert Godec and others issued a statement on the election after one person died in Siaya on Monday during the Opposition's protests against IEBC.

The statement addressed violence, the media's role and possible changes to election laws and at the electoral agency.

It read in part: "First, we are neutral and have no agenda other than to help ensure the Kenyan people have a successful election. We do not support any party, any candidate, or any outcome. We did not back any politician in the August 8 election, and we will not for this poll either."

But Kenyans have fired back saying diplomats should stay off political matters.

NASA's Siaya Senator James Orengo said they will not be blackmailed into backing out of its weekly demonstrations.

Kenyans on Twitter said the era of western supremacy is long gone and that the country does not interfere with matters in the United States.

Ngunyi, a political analyst, weighed in on the matter via Twitter on Wednesday, saying President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga belong to Kenya, not America.

"For the first time, I agree with NASA. Mzungu diplomats should shut up or ship out. Uhuru and Raila are ours. And their fight is for Kenyans," he said.

Ngunyi's followers asked what he had taken to become "sane".

"Leo ni kama kichwa yako uli weka coke baridi, si vodka (It seems you drank a cold Coke today, not vodka)," Odongo Daniel said.

Von Mutinda said, "I know how hard it must have been to arrive at this" while Harram Cop‏ said "either you're having lunch or the stomach is already full. First ever positive word about Baba (Raila)."

Kevin Wasonga agreed with the analyst "for the first time" on the matter of western dominance.

But one Ismail said there must be a catch and that "when Ngunyi agrees with NASA on anything we must be afraid. What is the catch in this? I don't think it's about diplomats."

Alex Fleming said: "Whatever you have taken today don't even think of letting it [off your] menu."

The analyst is a staunch Jubilee supporter who is often at crossroads with the Opposition.

On September 16, Ngunyi said Chief Justice David Maraga should be charged with treason.

He issued the remarks after Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu withdrew a petition before the JSC seeking to remove Maraga.

Ngunjiri made the move days after the Supreme Court nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta's victory in the August 8 general election.

His decision to withdraw the petition followed the President's advice.
