Security a non-issue, Kenyans my priority, Raila tells Uhuru

Opposition leader Raila Odinga is not afraid for his life despite the withdrawal of his security.

The NASA flag bearer said this on Tuesday, adding he will stand with the people to remove the IEBC secretariat from office and that "nothing will stop me".

"We woke up and found the security was not there. That is a non-issue and of no consequence. I don't fear," he said.

"I am not here because of their security...my biggest security is the people of Kenya. Under the law I am entitled to the security, not the sympathy of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"We are not regretting that they have take the security. We will be here to stand with the people of Kenya regardless of the consequences."

The ODM boss noted he is also entitled to pension "among other things".

Raila's spokesman Dennis Onyango told the Star the bodyguards were recalled to the GSU camp on Monday evening.

The government said it withdrew the security detail of Raila and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) as part of a scaling-down.

Earlier today, Suba South MP John Mbadi gave it 24 hours to reassign the bodyguards to the NASA principals.

"We are dismayed that Jubilee withdrew the bodyguards of our principals. This sets a dangerous precedent. Should anything happen to them we shall blame [Uhuru]," he said.

"Uhuru is solely responsible for their security as the current holder of power."

Regarding the reforms, Raila said IEBC has no intention to reform itself to deliver credible elections in future.

"Kenyans are not ready to hold another expensive election which will be rigged again," he said.

In December 2015, Raila said he did not fear arrest for his continued questioning of how Eurobond cash was spent.

Raila maintained he wanted the government to show the projects undertaken from the proceeds of the Eurobond's billions of shillings.
