Linking me to Mungiki won't reverse defeat by Uhuru, Kuria tells Raila

Moses Kuria has said NASA's attempts to associate him with Mungiki "will not wash away the fact that they will be defeated on October 26".

In an address to the press earlier on Tuesday, Suba South MP John Mbadi claimed the Gatundu South MP met youths in Banana, Ndonyo and surrounding Kikuyu suburbs, the sole aim being attacking NASA protesters.

He claimed the people have pangas and were being transported to town for free to cause chaos.

But Kuria stated he is not part of the outlawed sect and that he identifies with the Nairobi Business Organisation.

"We as Jubilee are busy looking for votes. Trying to associate me with Mungiki will not save NASA from the assured fate which is defeat at the ballot box," he told press conference in Nairobi.

The legislator further stated he has nothing to do with causing mayhem on the streets as Opposition supports demonstrate for the removal of IEBC officials.

"We have nothing to do with you...we are not police. You can create a map everyday, show you will demonstrate on different paths and give this to police. Why would we prevent you from picketing? It is your right and God-given talent," he said.

Kuria asked the National Super Alliance to ensure its protests do not interfere with business.

"I will ensure our businesses continue. All businesses are operating as normal and we are glad police thwarted their actions to disrupt businesses this morning."

Police were forced to fire tear gas to disperse NASA and Jubilee supporters after they clashed outside IEBC's Anniversary Towers offices on Tuesday.

NASA supporters who chanted 'Chiloba must go' were confronted by a group of Jubilee's who shouted 'We want peace'.

Both groups fled after anti-riot officers hurled teargas canisters at them. Coughing while scampering for safety, some of the protesters were seen running up the University of Nairobi footbridge.

Raila wants major changes at IEBC before he can once again vie against President Uhuru Kenyatta for the top seat.

His and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's security was withdrawn but he issued a statement today, saying his primary concern is Kenyans' welfare.

Raila, who has vied for president three times before, said their battle is against rigging.

"It was indefensible the first time it was done, in 2007. It was even more intolerable the second time, in 2013. And when it happened again last month, the level of deceit and impunity soared into altogether uncharted realm," he said.

He praised the Supreme Court for the historic September 1 ruling that invalidated Uhuru's victory in the August 8 national election, as declared by IEBC.
