by Jim Blockey, Contributing Author: Sending our children to public school is equivalent to the worst form of child abuse; we disable our children by enabling them, allowing them to run havoc through the hallways of our schools all in the name of self-esteem. Until we revert back to focusing on the drop-in rate rather than the drop-out rate of schools, our children are doomed to a mediocre existence.
Would you permit your two year old son cross the street by himself? Would you allow your ten year old daughter to cook dinner on a hot stove without supervision? Would you let your children jump into the tiger exhibit at the zoo? Obviously not!! That would be considered child abuse and you would rightfully go to jail. As silly as these questions may seem, American's need to start asking themselves if sending their children to a public school may be just as abusive.
The simple truth is every day we dress our children, feed them breakfast, make them lunch kiss them goodbye and send them to the bus stop believing we are doing the "best" for them. But are we? How has it come to be that our once thriving school system has transformed into one of America's greatest disasters? How is it that a selfless nation has been replaced with a selfish nation? Are self-esteem, sex education and environmentalism really more important than reading, math and history? Shouldn't those social subjects be left up to the parents and family?
According to the experts "Reading" is less relevant than the child's social calendar. High-quality readers could initiate anarchy in America. Our education system uses the "whole language" or "look-say" method of teaching how to read; these methods actually have caused the outbreak in dyslexia, a man made disease.
Years ago America's educational leaders had an agenda for our education system and that agenda was not to improve our children's education, but more to control their minds. These leaders were warned of the dangers of that agenda by numerous knowledgeable specialists and they chose to dismiss them and in some cases destroy their reputations.
Utilizing the research and facts of those specialists and my twenty-two years of experience teaching in the public school classroom; I have begun to expose the truth of why America's education system is decomposing at such an alarming rate. I have named the names of those doing so and I have explained exactly the travesty occurring in America's education system. These leaders in education rather than listen and discuss, have proceeded to seek to destroy my reputation.
Are our children really getting the education we thought they were or are they learning to be self-centered, selfish individuals that cannot read or appreciate and love the country they live in? If we don't make changes in the American public school system immediately will we have failed our children?
If you doubt the importance of education in our society, you need to understand the importance Abraham Lincoln gave it, "The Philosophy of the classroom of one generation will be the philosophy of the government of the next generation."
