We are going to reduce Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba to nothing since we raised him politically, Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo has said.
He said on Friday Namwamba is "just a second-term MP' and has allowed "dark forces" to control his conscience, thinking he can match ODM party leader Raila Odinga. "Raila has weathered many political storms. The issue of Ababu can only be compared to a storm in a teacup," Midiwo said.
Speaking at Wagai, Gem constituency, he said he is certain Namwamba cannot run for any political seat – including that of an MCA in his village – and win without ODM.
Midiwo said for Namwamba to insinuate he will be forming a political party to rival Raila is a clear sign of political immaturity. "I supported Ababu at Kasarani as the secretary general, not because he was popular, but because I wanted him to prosper in politics as he was still young," he said.
The deputy minority leader said the crop of leaders like Namwamba have lost focus in leadership by serving their personal interests and should not be given any audience.
The Gem MP said some Western leaders who have left ODM and those planning to leave are being "driven by their stomachs" and that is why ODM will not lose its stature in the region.
Midiwo dismissed claims by ODM rebels of mistreatment, saying those leaving the party after they recaptured their seats are to blame, not the other way round.
