Which Team Wins the Super Bowl for Sapping the Taxpayer?

Americans for Prosperity: Super Bowl 50 is this Sunday, and the Carolina Panthers will battle the Denver Broncos for the Vince Lombardi Trophy! But there's another big game going on daily — it's billionaire team owners working to secure your tax dollars to fund their new stadiums.

Take a look at which team is the champion when it comes to using your tax dollars! Then read on for how and why Americans for Prosperity is fighting it!
While billionaire team owners say they're bringing economic benefits to the areas around these stadiums, the facts are not on their side. By any metric, many of these areas are the same or worse off when it comes to poverty and incomes — plus, now they're saddled with new public debt! This report from the Taxpayers Protection Alliance has all the grisly details!

That's why Americans for Prosperity volunteers have begun to push back on these taxpayer boondoggles that just amount to welfare for billionaires.

In Florida, the Buccaneers are angling for another $12 million to give their stadium a facelift, but we're letting the public know it's a bad deal.

"Taxpayers' hard-earned dollars shouldn't go to profit-seeking billionaire sports team owners that already get fed at the ticket office, concession stands, and NFL revenue sharing trough," AFP spokesperson Andres Malave told 10News Florida in November. "AFP will continue to work with taxpayers and volunteers to hold elected officials accountable."

The Bucs lost out on public funding this year, but we'll stay vigilant in 2017 and beyond.

And in Missouri, taxpayers learned a tough lesson. The St. Louis Rams walked away, but it's the fans left holding the bag, with $144 million in maintenance costs and outstanding debt! According to this Reuters report, the city has asked the NFL to help with payments but haven't heard back.

So, enjoy the Super Bowl game a little extra this year, since you're paying for it!
