Vote with vengeance for 'thieves' to go home, Raila tells Nyamira

Thieves must go home, NASA chief Raila Odinga said in Nyamira county on Tuesday and asked the people to vote again with a vengeance.

The Opposition presidential candidate, who is preparing to face President Uhuru Kenyatta for the second time on October 17, asked all his supporters to show up.

"Muwe chonjo na muwe tayari kurudi kwa debe. Mara hii hakuna kura italala. Nataka mpige kura sana na tena kwa hasira. Mwizi aende nyumbani."

This loosely translates to: "Stay alert and get ready to return to polling stations. This time round no vote will be wasted. I want you to vote enmasse and with a vengeance. Thieves must go home."

Raila, who toured several parts of the county, maintained the IEBC team should not preside over the election.

"Hatuwezi rudi nyuma...fisi hawezi chunga mbuzi. Wale jamaa hawawezi linda kura zetu.. tukiwapa kura wataiba (We cannot move backwards...a hyena cannot guard sheep. Those people cannot guard our votes...if we allow them they will steal)," he said.

The National Super Alliance earlier wrote to the commission chaired by Wafula Chebukati stating clearly their demands for the election.

Raila, who is Opposition leader, reiterated that the trust issues his coalition raised concerning the IEBC must be addressed before voting day is set.

The coalition has rejected the date the commission announced and proposed October 24 or 31.

MARAGA IS NOT A 'MKORA'

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula, who is Ford Kenya leader and a NASA principal, asked residents not to vote for "thieves"

"Msitu ni ule ule na wanyama ni wale wale. Tupige kura hata zaidi. Tuwaonyeshe Uhuru na Ruto ukora wao hauwezi kuwapaeleka mahali popote (The forest and the animals remain the same. Let us vote in even higher numbers. Let us show Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto that their trickery will not help them get ahead)."

"Mimi na Mudavadi tumewaambia hakuna kura yao hata moja kule Western. Vifaranga wao watazungukazunguka lakini hakuna kura watapata (ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and I have told them they will not get a single vote in Western. Their [agents] will run around but they will not get anything)."

Wetang'ula further said Jubilee Party should stop threatening the Supreme Court for nullifying the August 8 presidential election result.

"Maraga na wengine si wakora. Kuna mkora mkubwa Kenya anaitwa Ruto...amesimama kando yako...hatutakubali Kenya ichezewe na watu wawili (Chief Justice David Maraga is not a crook. Ruto is the biggest crook and he is standing beside you...we will allow two people to play with Kenya)."

Uhuru termed Maraga a 'mkora' following the Supreme Court determination and said the Judiciary has a problem that they must fix.

Nyamira leaders asked him to apologise while residents held protests.

Following the historic ruling, the CJ has been praised by members of the public, leaders and colleagues.

It has been said he has proven himself a staunch defender of judicial independence on a continent where judges are often seen as being under the thumb of executive powers.

"We knew this case was coming and he was the man to hear it," Professor Tom Ojienda, who worked with Maraga and sits on the Judicial Service Commission that appointed him chief justice, told Reuters. "He is a stickler for the rules."
