Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba has warned farmers against growing sugarcane. Speaking in Kitale yesterday, Khaemba said the area is not suitable for cane farming. He said if sugarcane is grown in the area, farmers are likely to make losses because only poor quality of cane will be produced. Khaemba said farmers from sugar growing counties in Western Kenya are living in poverty due to their price fluctuation. The governor was reacting to calls by a section of leaders asking residents to try cane farming.
