
Congolese musician Francois Lulendo Matumona, popularly known as General Defao, has passed on.Congolese national broadcaster
RTNC reports that the
Papa Sango and
Sala Noki hitmaker succumbed to Covid-19 complications at the Lawuintinie Hospital in Cameroon on the eve of his 63rd birthday.His demise comes a few days before he was expected to entertain rhumba fans in Douala, Cameroon.Known for his swagger dances and high pitched, Defao is said to have felt during his rehearsals and rushed to hospital.He dies barely two years after returning to Kinshasa after 18 years of a self-imposed exile in Nairobi.His return followed a change in government after DR Congo Felix Tshisekedi warmed up to him.Defao fled Kinshasa in 2002, the year President Joseph Kabila came to power.
