House of shame: 15 MPs facing criminal charges
Fifteen MPs are in court for assorted charges, an all-time high that serves to highlight the debate about the integrity of public office holders.
Lugari MP Ayub Savula, who was arrested on Friday on charges of fraudulently obtaining Sh122 million from the Government Advertising Agency (GAA) is the latest addition to growing list of MPs on the wrong side of the law.
The cases against the members of the 12th Parliament are active in courts countrywide and range from corruption allegations, breach of the Constitution and the Ethics and Integrity Act 2012, while others are facing charges of incitement to violence and subversion of the law.

Double tragedy as two kids defiled while mourning on burial day
It was a double tragedy for the family of Francis Waiganjo after their nieces were defiled while they were mourned and buried their loved one.
On Sunday, Waiganjo said a suspect, someone well-known to the police, defiled their nieces aged four and a half years and two years respectively.
"We were mourning our aunt when the first incident occurred. The other incident occurred during the burial day," he told the Star on phone.

Gideon Moi spends weekend in Raila's backyard, pledges to work with former PM
Four ODM legislators on Sunday told Baringo Senator Gideon Moi he is on the right track working opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Moi spent the weekend in Raila's Nyanza backyard where he pledged to work with the former Prime Minister to develop the region.
The lawmakers Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay woman representative), Ong’ondo Were (Kasipul), Antony Oluoch (Mathare) and Lillian Gogo (Rangwe) argued that Moi would succeed in his political ambitions should be work together with the ODM leader.
The MPs said Raila is an experienced politician who understands Kenyan politics issues, adding that he is still relevant.

Diaspora remittances in 41.9% rise to net annual record of Sh255 billion
Kenyans abroad sent home $215.6 million (Sh21.6 billion) in August, pushing the annual diaspora remittance to a new high of $2.5 billion or Sh255 billion.
Latest data from Central Bank of Kenya shows the monthly average inflows sustained an upward trend, rising to $212 million (Sh21.2 billion) in the 12 months to August 2018 from $150 million (Sh15 billion) over a similar period in 2017, representing 41.3 per cent growth.
The 12 months cumulative inflows to August 2018 on other hand grew by 41.9 per cent to Sh255 billion from Sh179.7 billion last year

Kenyan Somalis are pawns in al Shabaab’s reign of terror
Terror group al Shabaab is a constant and present danger to the socioeconomic livelihood of Kenyans due to its frequent attacks in remote areas near Somalia.
While it appears al Shabaab’s main targets in the borderland regions are security agencies and non-local Kenyans, such as teachers, nurses and mechanics, Kenyan Somalis also suffer as targets of recruitment, are used as guides and foot soldiers.
The attacks on security agencies and non-local Kenyans is double-pronged.
