Rob Reiner, aka: Meathead |
Movies bashing the Iraq War were a hot trend in the Bush era. A few lingered on in the Obama era. But Rob Reiner must have thought that with the #resistance wind at his back, he could keep it going. Shock and Awe is about how everyone should have listened to reporters, instead of Republicans.
Audiences however weren't buying it.
It wasn't just that Shock and Awe tallied up a mere $41,000. Limited release pictures opening in a handful of theaters can score small, but really good numbers. The per theater average is $410.
That's $410 bucks to 100 theaters a piece. Those places would have made more money renting themselves out to a D&D session.
Compare that to The Catcher Was a Spy (the story of a Jewish baseball player turned secret agent during WW2) which took $52,000 from 46 theaters with a theater average of $1,134. Not breaking down the doors, but respectable. Meanwhile Shock and Awe is dead on arrival.
Sorry, Meathead.
