Ag. Lobby Pressures House to Block Goodlatte Bill

by NumbersUSA: Agricultural Lobbyists are putting pressure on House leadership to reject Goodlatte's H.R. 4760, the Securing America's Future Act, and pushing legislation that would enable their illegal alien workforce to remain in the U.S.

The California Farm Bureau Federation delegation met with representatives of 11 California Congress Members last week in Washington, D.C. to discourage support for Rep. Goodlatte's bill, which would reform the agricultural guest worker program, in addition to mandating E-Verify, and ending Chain Migration. The group also held meetings with staff for Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

Tom Nassif, president and CEO of the Western Growers Association, one of the nation's most powerful agricultural lobbyist groups, is also actively opposing the Goodlatte Bill, arguing that the Ag reforms in the legislation would cause a large amount of their illegal workforce to flee without returning.

"We don't believe, after talking to our farmers, that people here with false documents are going to raise their hand ... and touch back … then we lose our entire workforce," Nassif said.
