Politico: Chelsea Clinton Should Run For Senate In Arkansas

by Daniel Greenfield: This sounds like a great plan. And if Arkansas doesn't work out, there's always Alaska. Or Saudi Arabia. Or Mars. I'm not sure if that's a list of the places that Chelsea Clinton is least likely or most likely to win elections in.

So I wholeheartedly endorse this phoned-in Politico clickbait. With rumors swirling that Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton will soon head for the CIA, another Senate race may be added to the 2018 list. The safe money is for an open seat in Arkansas to stay in Republican hands... Of course, Hillary Clinton would have to overcome a lot of impediments to become only the third person in history to have represented more than one state in the Senate. She lost Arkansas to Trump by 27 points, and didn't even bother to campaign there. Also she managed to win the Dem primary against Bernie Sanders by 66% with less than 150,000 votes. 410,000 voters came out for the GOP primary. To put that into perspective, Rubio scored over 100,000 votes in Arkansas. And he came in 3rd.

But after reluctantly shrugging off Bill Clinton, currently weighed down by the whole rape\sexual assault thing, Politico settles on Chelsea Clinton. That leaves us with one Clinton: Chelsea.

She has the Clinton name but little of the Clinton baggage. She wouldn't hurt for name recognition or campaign cash... She is an Arkansas native, even though she hasn't lived there since she was 12. Sure, she lives in Manhattan now and lacks a Southern accent. But her mom bought her first house in New York two months before she launched her Senate bid, proving ZIP code ain't nothing but a number. Carpetbagger charges are inevitable. But in the end, what matters is your knowledge and respect of the state and its voters. Chelsea shows no hint of cultural condescension toward her birthplace. For example, as an NBC reporter, she spotlighted efforts to preserve the folk music traditions of the city of Mountain View in the Ozarks.
Yup. I'm sure the good people of Arkansas will be impressed that Chelsea "spotlighted efforts to preserve the folk music traditions of the city of Mountain View in the Ozarks". That doesn't at all sound like cultural condescension from a Manhattanite.

But I bet Hillary can teach Chelsea to put on a bad fake Southern accent. And before you know it, Chelsea will sound as authentic as Leslie Howard in Gone With the Wind.

But setting aside the cultural baggage, Chelsea Clinton has no charisma, no actual notable talents of any kind and no particular ambition beyond her inherited nepotism. That puts her well below either of her parents.

Showing up to run for Senate in a place where her particular routine, geared for lefty Manhattan fundraisers, would fall flat, would be an appropriately humiliating end to the Clinton dynasty.
