JKIA to be closed one hour for Mashujaa Day military drill

JKIA will be closed for one hour today to allow the military conduct this year's Mashujaa Day drill.

The troops will fly over Jomo Kenyatta International Airport between 11am and 12pm, temporarily disrupting air traffic.

Kenya Airways, through twitter on Wednesday, apologised to its clients that will be affected by the drill.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused by Nairobi airport closure," the airline said.

Mashujaa Day celebrations will be marked on October 20.

KQ has been cancelling and delaying flights since its profits started dwindling last year.

The airline, part-owned by the state and AirFrance KLM, sank into the red four years ago after tourism slumped.

Last September, a massive brain drain at the troubled Kenya Airways left the airline's technical department greatly understaffed.

This also caused delays and safety concerns.

Months later, engineers downed their tools citing poor pay, lack of promotions and unfavourable shift patterns.
