We'll give Uhuru victory over Raila on his 56th birthday, KOT say

It so happens that the repeat election will now take place on President Uhuru Kenyatta's birthday and KOT have something to say about this.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati announcement the postponement from October 17 to 26 on Thursday, saying they need to study the Supreme Court's verdict and its implications.

The court nullified Uhuru's victory over NASA chief Raila Odinga on September 1 and ordered a fresh vote within 60 days.

Uhuru will turn 56 on the new voting date and some members of the public have promised victory will be his birthday gift.

"Uhuru will be re-elected on his birthday...your vote your gift...Season Two: 70+1‏," one Jubilee Party supporter said.

Users Wirimu Kagichu and James Maina wrote messages similar to this one while one '@njorogekihara' said: "[Judge] Njoki Ndungu nailed it on her birthday. Uhuru Kenyatta will nail it on his birthday."

A Twitter user with the handle '@Denzinoh' described the anticipated victory "the most expensive birthday gift."

'@Stephenkinyenje' said: "Njoki Ndung'u was busy making her full judgement on her birthday. Uhuru Kenyatta will be back on the ballot on his birthday."

Ndungu and judge Jackton Ojwang disagreed with the majority determination by Chief Justice David Maraga, DCJ Philomena Mwilu, Smokin Wanjala and Mohamed Ibrahim.

She said her colleagues did not consider those of Articles 82 and 83 which are fundamental to an election process.

In his address on the full judgement yesterday, the President said the judges nullified his victory without looking at key documents.

But other social media users said Uhuru will be celebrating his downfall on his birthday.

"The only birthday gift Uhuru deserves is a retirement from politics," said Ruth Ambogo.

'@misssKenyatta' said: "NASA is OK with the election date of October 26 (Uhuru's birthday). President Kenyatta to celebrate well before going home."

Last week, French firm Safran Morpho presented its audit report and asked the electoral agency to extend the date to October 26 to allow it to upgrade the system.

Morpho is the supplier of the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System used for voter identification and transmission of results.

During last week's meeting, it said that an audit of the system showed that there was no hacking as claimed by the Kenyan opposition.

The company, however, wants to upgrade the system and to clean out any data held by the gadgets ahead of the repeat presidential poll.
