A raid at a Boni Forest hideout used by al Shabaab fighters has revealed a life of crime, sex, drug and alcohol use.
Pornographic DVDs, condoms, several empty alcohol bottles and assorted drugs were among items found on Monday at the makeshift camp that appeared to have been vacated recently.

KDF spokesman Joseph Owuoth said the militants deserted the camp in a rush leaving behind personal effects including a laptop currently under forensic audit.
"The shocking find of sexual paraphernalia, alcohol bottles and drugs found at the al shabaab camp provokes the question of validity of the militantsâ argument of fighting in the name of religion," he said in a statement on Thursday.
Owuoth reported that a group of Boni women identified two al Shabaab terrorists last week. The women said the militants - Issah Abdalla Ahmed aka Kauni and Ahmed Said Omar alias Dogo - were in a police list and that they had gang-raped them.
The identification followed reports the al Qaeda linked terrorists abducted women and held them in the forest as sex slaves.

Owuoth said several al Shabaab returnees who managed to escape said they may have been drugged while in captivity.
"[They] further confirmed the presence of women in the camp who were kept in a separate area and that only the older militants had access to them."
One of the returnees said the alcohol was not a strange find as the militants drink "especially after successful raids against AMISOM forces in Somalia or in the border towns.
âDrinking and chewing miraa the whole night was a very normal way to celebrate."

The militants have set up bases in the vast forest and hide there after attacking police officers and civilians.
The government's plan is to bomb the forest in Lamu county to flush all of them out.
