Bandari surrenders to Chemelil at Mbaraki Sports

For the second time in a space of a week, Bandari suffered a home defeat to Chemelil Sugar after going down 1-0 in a Kenyan Premier League match at Mbaraki Stadium yesterday.

Having lost to Tusker on Wednesday, their hopes of bouncing back with a win were shattered by the visitors, who could only complete just one of their many chances, to scoop the three points.

The two teams were equally disadvantaged before the game through suspensions. Andrew Waiswa of Bandari and Kennedy Odhiambo of Chemelil watched the game from the stands after they were sent off during their previous matches. Chemelil opened the scoring charts in the 20th minute through Shaphan Siwa who nodded in from a set piece. Siwa rose high displaying his aerial prowess against defenders known for their discipline in defending set pieces. The opener awakened the hosts who fought nail and tooth as they sought to avoid another home embarrassment. However, their fierce quest for a goal was met with an equally stubborn defensive work from their opponents, who expertly thwarted all the attempts directed at their goal.

The hosts, who suffered a 3-0 home loss to Tusker in a midweek clash, came out strong in the second half firing from all cylinders in search of parity but Abdallah Juma’s watertight defence was equal to the task.

The scheduled encounters pitting Western Stima and Nakumatt FC and Zoo Kericho versus Nzoia Sugar never took off as Football kenya Federation made good their statement of dropping Nakumatt and Zoo following a court ruling that demanded a 16-team league as opposed to the eralier reconstituted championship featuring 18.
