IEBC official arrested for misleading Teso voters to mark ballot papers twice

A presiding officer in Teso North was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly misleading voters into marking two spots on ballot papers.

It is, however, not clear which seat Robert Osara of Koteng'o Sokoni polling station was targeting.

He is currently being held at Nambale police station.

Teso South OCPD Paul Odede said that the suspect was arrested by curious voters who suspected he was up to no good.

Members of the public later took him to security officers who booked him at the police station.

"It is alleged that he was convincing naive voters to put two marks as proof of voting in a certain ballot paper," Odede said.

"We immediately went to the police station and interrogated him as part of our investigations."

He further cautioned other polling officers against taking advantage of the literacy level of the voters.

Photos of ballot papers marked twice did rounds on social media after polls opened.
