I know only one Ruto - Uhuru tells Bomet

Jubilee leaders yesterday continued to tear into the recent installation of Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto as the Kipsigis spokesman.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said he does not recognise any other ‘Ruto’ apart from the Deputy President.

Uhuru was in Bomet for Jubilee candidate Joyce Laboso’s manifesto launch.

He urged the electorate not to vote for Rutto but instead make history by electing the first woman governor in the country.

Uhuru said it has been hard for the national government to work with the county because “Rutto has been a stumbling block to projects aimed at helping residents”.

“I want you to support us in getting a second term and in 2022, we will all join hands in ensuring Ruto takes over,” he said. While drumming up support for Laboso, Uhuru said he abandoned his campaign rallies to support the Bomet residents. He said Laboso’s election as the next governor will bring progress in Bomet county.

Citing the Bomet varsity as one of the key projects “Rutto has sought to ensure it is not constructed”, Uhuru told residents the project will soon be gazetted so construction can begin immediately.

It was the first time Uhuru was making a return to Bomet alone without Ruto, barely two weeks after the duo toured the region as they sought to maintain their grip on the region in the midst of a sustained fight on Jubilee by Rutto.

Ruto’s absence was, however, questioned with hundreds of supporters who turned up at the stadium at one point engaging in shouting matches asking Uhuru where the Deputy President was.

He told them Ruto was at the Coast campaigning for Jubilee. Among those present were Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, Natioanal Assembly majority leader Adan Duale, Senators Kipchumba Murkomen (Elegeyo Marakwet), Stephen Sang (Nandi), Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Nairobi woman representative Rachael Shebesh and Kanu secretary general Nick Salat.
