Here are a couple of his takeaways on the protest:
- Sen. Bernie Sanders reminds us that the whole reason for opposing pipelines is to stop energy production. This is the goal of "Keep it in the ground."
- Ironically, the crowd of a few hundred Bernie fans—one shouted "I love you!"--enjoyed using their smartphones, backpacks, bikes, and other products that wouldn't exist without abundant fossil fuels.
- A former U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan thinks it's becoming harder to build energy infrastructure in the U.S. than it is in Central Asia(!)
- Since the Dakota Access Pipeline is being mostly built on private land—it is not going through a Native American reservation—the company behind it said work will continue.
- Our country relies on energy and we get that by safely producing and transporting it by way of energy infrastructure projects like the Dakota Access Pipeline. Once you get past their hyperbole, you see that pipeline opponents want to abandon all the benefits we get from that abundance.
