FULL LIST: 53 senior police officers promoted, spokesman Charles Owino gets top rank

Fifty-three senior police officers have been promoted to new ranks.

National Police Service Commission said it effected the promotions in a board meeting on July 26.

NPS said it considered work record, regional balancing and gender in the promotions.

Notably, only six women were promoted, while the other officers are men.

"In determining the promotions the commission took into account parameters that are laid out in the Constitution, the National Police Service Commission Act and the NPSC regulations on promotions which include seniority, merit, work record, ethnic and regional balance and gender mainstreaming," NPSC said in a statement.

Police spokesman Charles Owino was promoted from the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police to Commissioner of Police.

He has also been placed in acting capacity in the rank of Assistant Inspector General.

Nairobi County commander Japheth Koome was promoted from Commissioner of Police to Assistant Inspector General, while Zachary Kingori Mwangi was promoted from Assistant Inspector of Police to Senior Assistant Inspector General.

Kingori is currently the Principal Assistant to the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police.

Head of operations at Kenya Police Benson Kibui, head of operations at Administration Police Peter Pamba and General Service Unit commandant Stephen Chelimo were also promoted to new ranks.

In total, out of the 53 officers, five were promoted to the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG) and 32 to the rank of Assistant Inspector General.

Sixteen officers were promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and placed in acting capacity for confirmation to the rank of Assistant Inspector General for six months.
