Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has urged Ukambani leaders to stop extorting President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of his tour of the region on May 19 to 21.
Mutua said some leaders were demanding millions of shillings to abandon their political parties and join the Jubilee brigade.
"They are merely interested in serving personal greed. Those leaders have nothing to offer the electorate," he said.
Mutua added that the same leaders were previously opposed to Uhuru's official visits to the region, but are now eager to join the tour.
They are opportunists and political turncoats, he said.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said he will welcome the President during his visit to the region.
Yesterday, Mutua said he is not interested in supremacy battles with Kalonzo, but is driven by the desire to trigger social, political and economic transformation in Ukambani.
Mutua said the era of retrogressive politics that do not change the lives of the electorate is long gone.
"Let's join hands and be agents of political change. We must change the lives of our people by practising politics of development," he said.
The governor said the recent State House visit by a delegation of thousands from Ukambani was a positive move that will help transform politics in the region.
Mutua said that the national government had already honoured its pledge to issue 200,000 title deeds to Ukambani residents.
He hit out at Ukambani leaders who have slammed the State House.
"Those leaders only want to use their positions to benefit themselves and do not have the interests of the electorate at heart. They are simply concerned about how to fill their tummies and those of their cronies," Mutua said.
He spoke at Kimutwa public grounds during a cancer awareness and screening event hosted by his wife Lilian Nganga Mutua.
MPs Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), John Munuve (Mwingi North) and Tip Tip party leader Kalembe Ndile were at the function.
