The romantic's favorite celebratory occasion is arising and there are bound to be a plethora of articles advising you on what you should be doing to prepare yourself for the anticipated day. But what a lot of articles don't tell you is what really you shouldn't be doing.
A graph of peak break-up dates, created by David McCandless and Lee Byron, reveals what time of year people are most likely to break up. Based on Facebook relationship-status changes, the data reveals that break-up rates on and around Valentine's Day is pretty high.
Here's an article to advice you on what you SHOULDN'T be doing this Valentine's Day to ensure that you can keep your special one for another year.
1. DON'T bring a friend
As much as you may think "the more the merrier" this concept does not apply to Valentine's day. What is likely to happen is your third wheel may start to grow increasingly depressed about the situation and potentially ruin the romantic vibe. Also why would you even want to spend Valentine's with anyone apart from your loved one anyway?
2. Don't suggest a bad movie
If you decide to opt for a movie date please try to consider the movie itself. It is common knowledge that most couples visit the cinema due to it being an apt breeding ground for fond affection because of the dim lighting and cozy chairs. However, is it likely if the movie itself is either quite serious or especially scary It may destroy the romantic mood you're trying to create. Ps. Keep PDA to a minimum, it's not fun to watch at the cinema.
3. Don't go on your first date
Now these are already nerve wracking enough without the additional burden of the occasion. If it's your first date, the last thing you'd want to do is start out with things being too serious and uncomfortable. Valentine's day usually celebrates lasting couples and it is very awkward to be surrounded by a plethora of couples on your first date.
4. Don't overdo the garlic
As obvious as this may sound, try to avoid eating too much garlic, not only for its aversive impacts on your digestive system but also for the fact that a Valentines date Is very likely to amount to some sort of physical activity and the last thing you'd want to do scare away your partner because of something as ludicrous as bad breathe. If anything carry breath mints with you to make the experience all the more enjoyable.
5. Don't gift weird presents
Invariably, you know your partner better than anyone else. Valentine's Day is not the time to take risks and experiment with different types of presents. Avoid the generic lingerie or clothes unless you are sure of your partner's size and tastes to prevent unnecessary disputes. It's usually safest to stick to the chocolates as it is more widely accepted.
6. Avoid Loans
Many people say that the only time you have to impress your lover is Valentine's day. I don't object, but then what if it turns out to be you are broke AF. Do you turn for a loan? Well for me getting a loan to go have some fun with your love is a wrong move as its not an investment with returns not unless she is willing to refund you the cash you are going to spend. But if you are sure you will be getting more than enough money after the 14th then you can go ahead and borrow one as I have seen many banks now offering Valentines loans for get-aways.
