Hillary Clinton Couldn't Use Computer, Wanted Separate Network

by Daniel Greenfield: At this point, I don't know if we're dealing with excuses or some combination of corruption, incompetence and paranoia boiled in one old pot. If you believe State, Hillary Clinton, a United States Senator, didn't know how to check email on her computer when she took office as Secretary of State.Hillary Clinton did not know how to use a computer to read and send emails when she entered office as the nation's top diplomat in 2009.

She only knew how to read her messages via BlackBerry, according to an official at the time.

Clinton's chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, told State Department official Lewis Lukens that there could be a "problem," because Clinton "does not know how to use a computer to do email — only [Blackberry]," he wrote in a 2009 email released on Monday."

It's unclear whether Clinton was ever trained to use a computer to access emails.Backing that up are her constant "Pls print" messages and her inability to get basic things to work. But then again State also offered to set up a network just for her.The State Department proposed creating a "stand-alone" computer operating on a separate network for Hillary Clinton shortly after she took the helm as the nation's top diplomat in 2009, according to newly released emails.

Days after Clinton was sworn in as secretary of State, department official Lewis Lukens offered to give her a computer that would be "connected to the internet (but not through our system) to enable her to check emails from her desk."

"The stand-alone seperate [sic] network PC is on on [sic] great idea," Undersecretary for Management Patrick Kennedy responded in a Jan. 24, 2009, email.

"Yes we were hoping for that if possible so she can check her email in her office," agreed Huma Abedin, a longtime Clinton aide and her deputy chief of staff at the time.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton called the messages "shocking" and said that it was "scandalous" for the Obama administration not to have previously released them.

"They show the Obama State Department's plan to set up non-government computers and a computer network for Hillary Clinton to bypass the State Department network," Fitton said in a statement.So on the one hand, Clinton and her people were ridiculously paranoid. On the other they were technically incompetent. This somehow led to Hillary's bathroom email server which everyone seemed to have access to and which contained highly classified information, including the names of undercover CIA operatives.

Clinton's people did not want the media or the public to have access to her emails. All this was supposed to stifle transparency. Instead it backfired in the worst way possible.
