River Nyando

Let the dark clouds gulp the scorching rays of the sun... Let the frogs croak at the hooting owls. Let the snakes hiss at the whistling wind, let couples cuddle until they sleep... Mbu!! River Nyando is in turmoil! It deserves a peace of mind.

Every time when the golden rays of the sun dispenses its gleams to the glittering morning dew in dala, River Nyando starts to cry. She knows that the young boys from dala are due to arrive. Her peaceful water will wrestle and riot by itself and strain every nerve to run away from the young boys...

Upon their arrival, they will ask River Nyando for a handful of water. They usually do! And she will give it to them in plenty. They will quench their thirst... and they will not even say thank you. No! They will instead line themselves up at her river bank. And at the count of three, start a competition on whose urine will hit the furthest point of the river...

river nyandoAnd as if thats not enough, Young and older women will do their laundry by the river. As usual, some of them will undress themselves and immerse their pampered pumpkin buttocks into it. The pawpaw - shaped protrusions that tower their chest cavities will then float on water... [hmmm]

From a distance, a throng of hungry men will climb the nearest tall trees. Some will step on weak brunches and fall. Others will enjoy the panoramic view of the naked women in the river. Their hearts will palpitate from their throats. They will swallow heavy gulps of saliva. They will pluck their eyes out of their sockets to zoom the naked women... They will slap their knees with greed and begrudge the princely possessions of River Nyando... They will see things. Things that will dare them to sell off their lands just to have them.

Unfortunately, pregnant women will also be there. They will turn off the hungry men by how they will gather heavy saliva in their mouth. Then spit as if they are throwing up. Its the kind of saliva that you spew and some of it remains dangling on your lips.

I salute River Nyando. It has tried.
