ALERT ACTION: Keep the Internet Tax-Free!

Citizens Against Government Waste
by Thomas A. Schatz, President CCAGW: The Senate may have an opportunity as early as THIS WEEK to vote to make the moratorium on Internet access taxes permanent for the very first time.

I urge readers, even if you have already done so previously, to tell your U.S. Senators to support making the Internet tax moratorium permanent!

As I have written before, the House of Representatives passed the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act on June 9, 2015. However, the Senate never held a vote on its version of the legislation. Instead, at the end of last year, Congress once again extended the temporary Internet tax moratorium until October 1, 2016.

But now, the Senate is about to vote on legislation that includes a provision that would make the Internet tax ban permanent. If we can derail an effort by some Senators to strip this provision out of the legislation, then we will finally WIN this battle to keep the Internet tax-free!

Your participation in this grassroots drive is so vitally important because if the Internet tax moratorium is not made permanent and is instead allowed to expire, Americans will face a tax hike estimated at $14.7 billion annually!

This new multibillion-dollar tax burden will not only stifle the Internet as a vital engine of economic growth, it will also penalize the tens of millions of Americans who now spend much of their work time and playtime online.

I cannot stress enough how critically important it is that we send an overwhelming demand to the Senate to keep the provision that would make the Internet tax ban permanent in the conference report for the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015. Please tell your U.S. Senators: Make the Internet tax moratorium permanent today!
