Jelani Maraj, the brother of Nicki Minaj, has been charged with raping a 12-year-old.
Jelani Maraj, 37, of Baldwin, was arraigned Thursday in a Long Island hospital on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual conduct against a child, a Nassau County court official said.
He was arrested on Tuesday but suffered an unknown medical condition that required him to be arraigned two days later at Nassau University Medical Center.
It was not immediately clear if Maraj entered a plea, but he was released on $100,000 bail. His New York City attorney did not return repeated telephone calls seeking comment on Friday.
Jelani is charged with one count of one felony count of rape stemming from a April 1, 2015 incident, according to court documents attained.
He is also charged with one count of felony Course Sexual Conduct against a child in the first degree.
According to the court documents, Course Sexual Conduct is when a person, "being eighteen years old or more, engages in two or more acts of sexual conduct, which include at least one act of sexual intercourse, oral sexual conduct, anal sexual conduct or aggravated sexual contact, with a child less than thirteen years old" over a period of time not less than three months.
If these accusations are true, then that means Jelani reportedly sexually assaulted this alleged 12-year-old victim more than once and over a period of months.
