Generation Opportunity on Senator Marco Rubio's Remarks Regarding the Sharing Economy

Arlington, VA – This morning, Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) appeared at Civic Hall, a civic tech community center in New York City, to speak about the challenges facing the sharing economy.

Generation Opportunity National Spokeswoman Patrice Lee released the following statement:

"Millennials comprise the lion share of consumers in the sharing economy because we value the opportunity, freedom, and convenience that innovation provides. While some policymakers have tried to downplay or even demonize the sharing economy—siding with special interests over young entrepreneurs— Senator Rubio's remarks are supportive of a 21st century economy with a competitive, on-demand marketplace.

"Out-of-touch policymakers have proposed cracking down on the sharing economy with unreasonable regulations to accomplish political ends. We encourage young Americans to join Generation Opportunity in our fight to free the sharing economy and allow the free market to pick winners and losers, not the government."
