Former Destiny's Child Singer To Play The Role Of Luscious Lyon's Mom In The Much Awaited Empire Season 2!

Former Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland is set to play the mother of Terrence Howard's Lucious Lyon in the new season of Empire.

The 34-year-old pop star will be making her appearance on the hip hop drama series in a flashback but little more than that has been revealed.

Kelly's role was confirmed by entertainment site TVLine and she will be joining Hollywood actress Marisa Tomei, comedian Chris Rock, Empire State of Mind singer Alicia Keys and musician Lenny Kravitz. 

The star has previously put her acting skills to good use in the Hollywood musical Dream Girls, horror flick Freddy Vs Jason and sitcom Girlfriends.

Previous guest stars on Empire have included Rita Ora, Snoop Dogg and Mary J Blige, while British model Naomi Campbell, singer Courtney Love and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson have taken on recurring roles on the series.

The show follows the in-fighting between the members of the Lyon clan over the family's record label Empire Entertainment and stars Taraji P Henson, Trai Byers, Jussie Smollet and Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe.

 

The first season of Empire was lauded by critics and received a number of nominations with actress Taraji taking home the award for Best Actress at this year's Critics' Choice Television Award.
