The Swahili Fashion Week brings ‘fashionistas’ to Dar es Salaam

DAR ES SALAAM IS AT THE CENTRE OF FASHION TOURISM THIS WEEKEND

(Posted 06th December 2014)

Yesterday evening did the Swahili Fashion Week kick off in earnest with the showcasing of the year's collections created by 8 designers, who were selected to be part of what has become East Africa's premier fashion event.

The venue, a party tent on the lawns of the Sea Cliff Hotel, was filled to capacity and more, with only room to stand at the back, as the models strutted their stuff on the runway to the delight of those with 'ringside' seats as well as those who made the proverbial giraffe necks to catch a glimpse.

Mustafa Hassanali, the maestro of the annual #SFW2014, was at the end of the first of three evenings in a more relaxed mood and met his guests, supporters and media representatives at the exit, after a hectic and at times tense final hours countdown to the launch to be sure everything was set and ready to go.

Designers had flown in from as far as Zimbabwe to showcase their evening and daytime wear and Sabina Mutsvati received some extra applause when coming on stage to take a bow for her creations.

Judging by the reaction of the crowd was the first of the three grand finale nights a success and the local, regional and continental media present had a field day, speak evening, to capture the moments and then share it with readers and viewers across Eastern Africa and beyond. The event can be followed via Twitter hashtag #SFW2014, on Facebook via www.facebook.com/swahilifashionweek or by clicking on www.swahilifashionweek.com or by simply watching this space with updates from the events of this weekend.
