Education CS Jacob Kaimenyi has defended the ban on ranking of schools that was instituted by his office saying that it has led to unnecessary competition and exam irregularities. Kaimenyi made the remarks during the ongoing address before the release of the 2014 KCPE results. The CS said that because schools are eager to be ranked highly, they engage in "harmful" practices, such as removing weak students from schools, and some schools maintaining low numbers which in turn put a financial strain on parents.
