If you never travelled in one of these, you are definitely too young.
The pickup matatu was like the only mode of transport until early 2000’s. Over twenty passengers were made to fit inside, and honestly if you did not get the seat next to the driver, you would have to hold your breath for the entire journey… literally.
It’s surprising that all these years later, a few of these vehicles still operate. Check out this one in Nyeri.
