Politicians in Kisii county who lost during last week’s election are weighing their options and some are considering retirement.
The biggest loser in the election was immediate former Senator Chris Obure (pictured), who was running for governor. He was defeated by incumbent James Ongwae.
Ongwae garnered 202,174 votes against Obure’s 109,148.
Former South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya finished third with 52,002.
Political analyst and advocate Edward Begi says Obure’s options are limited.
“I don’t think Obure will file a petition against Ongwae’s election. Ongwae won by a huge margin,” he said.
Obure, 74, defected from ODM to Jubilee Party. He might, however, be appointed by the Jubilee administration or choose to join former Cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae in retirement.
When former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara filed a petition against his election in 2013, Obure said he does not believe in petitions.
