Joho not fit to be President in 2022, says Senator Omar

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho cannot be President in 2022 because his ideologies, qualities and ability are inadequate, Senator Hassan Omar said on Sunday.

Omar said Joho is the least-deserving candidate among the 2022 hopefuls. He spoke in Likoni when he attended an iftar dinner organised by Jubilee leaders.

Joho has declared his interest to run for president in 2022 and said his priority in 2017 is to ensure Cord leader Raila Odinga gets to State House.

Omar, however, said the pronouncement is an effect of "shisha stimulation"

"I did not know shisha makes someone drunk," he said. Shisha, which is harmful to smokers, is classified as an addictive drug. Joho was unavailable to comment. County communication director Richard Chacha said he would respond later.

"I will call later to explain our approach," Chacha said yesterday. However, by the time we went to press, there was no response.

Omar said more educated candidates have better prospects of becoming good leaders. In 2013, Joho's degree authenticity was questioned, but the matter was resolved when Kampala University Vice Chancellor Badru Kateregga said the degree was genuine.

Omar said the governor cannot lead the country, as he has failed Mombasa residents. He cited failure to fix the drainage problem and said the 2022 issue is a strategy by the governor to get reelected.

"Some people chest-thump, yet no one has benefited from their leadership," The Wiper secretary general said. Omar asked Joho to improve the livelihoods of his electorate first. He slammed the governor for calling Raila to officiate the issuance of Sh6,000 bursary cheques, saying a candidate with leadership qualities could not do that.
