Eldoret police have arrested more than 500 students for allegedly illicit behaviour within a local night club.
The secondary school students were arrested for having sex and doing drugs within the nightclub during a party on the evening of Sunday, October 4. Some were found to be in possession of bhang. Other club goers were found in possession of used condoms.
Many of the students arrested are reported to be beneath 18 years of age.
The arrested students will be arraigned in court to face charges. Police in Eldoret are currently conducting investigations into the case, reports Citizen TV.
Police made the arrests at a club called Sam's Discotheque. The club is less than 50 meters away from a police station, reports the Daily Nation.
This is not the first casd of police busting partying students within recent months. In August of 2015, police in Kirinyaga stopped a Nairobi bound bus carrying students. The police made arrests for students possessing drugs and engaging in sexual intercourse.
In one case, a girl was found with bhang hidden in her underpants and police allegedly forced her to undress before a cameraman and her semi-nude photos instantly went viral on social media. The girl was found with si rolls of bhang hidden within her underwear. The girl's 18 month probation sentence was challenged in court by CRADLE, a children's rights organisation.
The girl's probation has since been suspended and she is seeking damages of KSh seven million against the police for the nature of her arrest.
In another incident, students from Koelel Boys High repeatedly snuck into the grounds to engage in sexual relationships with the students from Gilgil Girls Secondary. The male students wore skirts in order to gain entrance to the girls school grounds.
