Over the weekend,Saturday to be precise one Njoki Chege of the Daily Nation sought to address the issue on tackling the elephant in the room which is basically fat shaming all the big bodied women in Kenya.
In her article she disagrees with the fact that the authentic African woman is huge and that the term plus size women is an escape for unhealthy eating habits and not hitting the gym.
Now in light of various reactions from the public and more so celebrities like One FM presenter Neomi Ng'ang'a,former radio queen Caroline Mutoko, the former Miss world Kenya 2006 and even socialite Huddah Monroe, I too have quite bit to say.
Well for starters we fat women love ourselves as we are and in the event we do not we hit the gym or join slim possible. So we are fat and so what? That does not give you a upper hand to tell us what is wrong with our bodies on a National paper with such a mean and bitter approach just because you are skinny.
We love our buckets of chicken drumsticks and bag of chips because such is life.Busy schedules, cravings and just for the mere fact that we are hungry. We are unattractive, says who? You? Oh please! As for the men who are not into fat women can always decide to go for a size 8 chic like you but that makes me wonder why you have not scored one for yourself to take home for Christmas...wait, you have no man because they are in the arms of all these fat women walking around with slabs of fat and body contouring dresses and defiling their heels.
You know what,I have always been a big baby even with a ka pot belly because my mother fed me with a lot of porridge with cream,I have been laughed at and called kanono but it is no excuse I am comfortable with how I look.It is not if you are skinny you get to have a super power or something right?
Bottom line is that we are all different, some skinny some fat, some tall some short, some abled some handicapped, some light some dark but yet so brilliant no matter their flaws okay? Being fat is not the worst thing a woman can be by the way.
Its sad to note that you don't acknowledge the fact that there are other reasons for being diabetic like its a hereditary disease. Also just because you are skinny does not mean you are safe from diabetes, you can be a size 8 but still be a walking corpse.Who knows? There strange diseases in this world of ours.In simple terms, skinny does not necessarily mean healthy and fat does not always mean unhealthy.
As for the unhealthy eating habits, well we eat we grow fat,you eat still remain flat chested, bony thigh-ed and butt-less.Its just the way it is,I do not know where all the fries take away from Arizona go to but it sure as hell ain't from hitting the gym, doing the morning or taking the stairs at Nation center.
From one writer to another,I completely understand you wrote that with all the intention of getting people talking and getting head but you do not have to step on people's toes just to do that. Also the simple fact that you need to poke at people's flaws to get you trending is a clear indication of how lacking you are as a journalist.
Instead of fat shaming you should have consulted with a doctor to help you write a much more informed piece on diabetes and obesity which is real crisis that needs attention in order to create awareness.
As I conclude, its not like I hate skinny women, I mean even my sister is skinny but you should not take pleasure in taking a jab at other people because you have it all figured out. Realised we are fat that we need a life changing article because that just being a sadist.
Now here is the truth plus a word of advice to you all who think are better because you are skinny or do not gobble down those chips and sodas every other week.Mind your own business and let people live their lives, period!
