Lamu demos disrupt transport, business

Businesses and transport in Lamu have been disrupted by the dusk-to-dawn curfew. Imams are urging locals to derail major services to protest against the curfew. A seven-day ultimatum issued by Lamu imams for the government to lift the curfew elapsed yesterday. Many shops, hotels, businesses and offices remained closed yesterday following the decree. Boat and bus transport was not available. Few operators who opened shops were attacked by rowdy youths. Some of the youths placed trash at the doorsteps of businesses opened for operation.
